Tickets on Sale for Chippewa Valley Air Show June 5 & 6
March 13th, 2010 by Julie Pangallo
The Blue Angels return to the skies above Eau Claire on June
5 & 6, for the Chippewa Valley Air Show sponsored by the Chippewa
Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. The show kicks off a
year full of events celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.
Advance tickets have gone on sale for the discounted price of
$17 at Mega Foods, Mega Holiday and participating Menards stores.
Gate price will be $25. Youth, age 12 and under, will be admitted
FREE, compliments of the Boy Scouts.
Scout Executive Gary Gilger explains that "Kids are the reason
we do an airshow. We want as many kids as possible to enjoy
the Blue Angels and the rest of the performers. It's a great
learning experience for the Boy Scouts that are involved, and
a super way for youth to discover scouting." As scouting heads
into it's second century, Gilger emphasizes that scouting is
"relevant, and ready for the next 100 years."
Gates open at 8:30AM both days, and the grounds will be filled
with "static displays"--airplanes parked so people can get up
close for a good look!
The air show is a major fundraiser for the Boy Scouts, but
also benefits dozens of other community organizations that provide
manpower for concessions and parking.
Air Show Co-chairman Lonnie Kolar advises, "We're still confirming
other top military performers and demo teams--we hope to add
some really cool stuff that couldn't make it to the last show."
Weather was a huge factor in limiting the static displays for
the 2008 show, as low cloud cover prevented several performers
from getting in.
When asked what will be different this year, Kolar says,
"We have a lot of the bugs worked on in the parking plan...it
should be easier to get in and out. And of course, weather.
We're planning on two days of sunshine for the show this year!"
